About the Item
Valen. A large loose watercolour in which a winged, petal-like central form spreads across the sheet in bands of cerulean, teal and coral, surrounded by drifting curtains of mauve, plum and sage wash. The paint is applied wet-into-wet with visible granulation, bloom edges and dry-brush striations, and the composition reads equally as a flower opening or a bird in flight. The palette is soft and atmospheric, with no hard outlines anywhere. Medium: watercolour on paper. Signed lower right of the sheet, in black brush or pen, reading "Valen". Inscribed on the reverse or mount: Valen. Condition: Cream mat lightly toned; strong reflections and a lamp reflection across the glass; no tears, cockling or foxing visible.
