About the Item
A pale-skinned nude sits on a carpet-draped divan with her back to the viewer, long auburn hair falling over one shoulder and a white towel across her lap, her head turned towards a shaft of light from a doorway. Behind her a flight of marble steps climbs to a turquoise pool where a second figure in a saffron robe and headscarf crouches. In the foreground are the props of the bath: a shallow brass basin, a copper bowl and a bulbous red-orange ewer. The palette is a cool grey-green architecture against warm flesh, orange and copper accents; handling is smooth and academic. Medium: oil on canvas. Signed lower right, painted in dark colour and partly under the frame rebate. Condition: No tears or losses visible; surface glossy with strong flash glare in the detail shots. Corners of the gilt frame show minor rubbing.
