Classical Nude Collaged in Gilded Relief Panel, Framed

About the Item

At the centre a smooth photographic reproduction of a classical standing nude - one arm raised above her head, the other tipping a jar from which water pours - is collaged onto a deep charcoal field. Around her the surface erupts: thick pale scrolls and coils are trowelled on like piped icing, sheets of gold and copper leaf are laid over swirling combed patterns, and torn patches of crimson, olive and cream break in at the edges. The contrast between the cool, sharply-printed figure and the crusty metallic relief is the whole point of the piece. Presented in a slim gold frame. Medium: mixed media on canvas - printed image, modelling paste relief and metal leaf. Condition: Some of the raised relief is chipped or abraded at the left edge where the pale scrolls meet the dark ground, exposing the layer beneath; this may be an intentional distressed finish. No tears in the canvas visible.
