Modernist Lithograph of a Green-Faced Prophet and Angel, Framed

About the Item

A dramatic colour lithograph in the School-of-Paris biblical manner: the head and shoulders of an old bearded man fill the left of the sheet, his face and hands washed in acid green with a black flowing beard drawn in loose crayon curls. A small white angel with outstretched wings and a round pale face floats in the upper right against a smoky black-brown ground, and a second green form appears at the lower right. The colour is laid in flat, grainy crayon patches over a mottled black and ochre field, with the lithographic tooth of the crayon visible throughout and no plate mark or margins showing. It is presented in a gold fillet-lined mount, a wide cream linen mat and a black-and-gilt frame under glass. Medium: colour lithograph. Condition: Colours strong, no foxing or tears visible; the sheet is trimmed close and hidden under the fillet so the margins cannot be inspected. Reflections on the glass.
