About the Item

A traditional pastoral scene: a stand of tall trees in russet and olive fills the left half, opening onto a silvery river that recedes to a soft distant horizon. A small group of cattle, one picked out in rust-red, is driven along the near bank beside a figure, painted with small flickering touches. The sky is broadly brushed in cream, dove grey and pale blue with lit cloud edges, and the whole is kept in a mellow, low-contrast key of browns, greens and greys. A red cursive signature sits at the lower right. Medium: oil on canvas. Signed lower right, in red. Condition: No obvious tears or flaking. Some surface gloss and glare; a fine craquelure cannot be ruled out from these images. Frame finish is evenly worn.
