About the Item

A generous bouquet fills almost the whole canvas: dense white and cream pompom chrysanthemums cluster at the left and right, with butter yellow, russet-red and dusty lilac blooms massed through the centre and a few slender stems breaking free at the top. The flowers are built from short loaded touches of impasto so the petals catch real light, while the leaves are dropped in as loose olive and blue-green strokes. Below, a rounded jug in soft powder blue sits on a grey cloth against a pale, scrubbed background of warm white and grey. Traditional and painterly, with a quiet, chalky palette. Medium: oil on canvas. Condition: No craquelure, flaking or tears visible. A small pale mark on the shoulder of the blue jug may be a paint highlight or a tiny loss. Frame is clean with light rubbing on the outer edge.
