About the Item

A tall blue-grey clapboard barn with an open loft stands at the left, its timbers picked out in strokes of slate and white, while a broad-crowned willow spreads over the centre in short green and grey dabs. A low rail fence and a rust-red outbuilding run across the middle ground above a meadow of yellow and green flecks. The paint is thick and choppy throughout, with pronounced impasto and a visible craquelure over the sky. Medium: oil on canvas. Condition: Fine craquelure is visible across the sky and upper paint layers; the frame shows rubbing, small losses to the gilding and general age wear. No tears or flaking noted.
