About the Item
A vertical winter vignette of Father Christmas trudging through deep snow, a sack of toys on his back spilling a jack-in-the-box, a teddy bear, a doll and a trumpet, and a small decorated fir carried on a staff. His crimson coat and hat are trimmed with heavy white fur painted in thick raised strokes, and his beard is a mass of impasto white. The background is a soft blue-grey hillside flecked with falling snow, and the whole surface is heavily textured. Medium: oil on board. Signed lower left of the image, in pale yellow paint. Condition: Strong reflections and dust on the glazing; no damage visible to the painted surface.
