· mid to late 20th century

About the Item
A dense charcoal drawing on cream paper in which smoky masses of black and grey are pulled into a rounded rectangular field. At its centre a tight spiral coil suggests an eye or shell, ringed by radiating scratched strokes, while heavier bands sweep across the lower half like a reclining form. The tone is built by smudging and stumping with sharper drawn lines cut through it, and the paper is left bare at the outer margins. Medium: charcoal on paper. Signed lower right of the sheet, in pencil. Condition: The sheet shows light overall toning and a soft waviness; some glare on the glazing. No tears or losses visible.
