About the Item
A finely bitten etching of a medieval German street: a stone archway spans the cobbled way at centre, framed by tall gabled and half-timbered houses with shuttered windows, a stone fountain at right and a lone walking figure in the foreground. The plate is worked in dense fine line, then hand tinted with muted watercolour - terracotta roofs, dull teal shutters, warm stone and a soft grey pavement. The paper is cream and shows a clear plate mark within a deep charcoal mat. Medium: etching with hand colouring on paper. Signed in pencil below the plate, lower right. Inscribed on the reverse or mount: Rothenburg, Roderbogen; Orig. Rad.. Condition: Paper lightly toned; heavy reflections and some haze on the glass; no visible foxing or tears.
