About the Item

A deckle-edged sheet with the look of a weathered fresco: a small white horse stands in profile at left, and at right a dark-eyed young figure in a curly headdress and a heavily encrusted, gold-flecked robe leans on a ledge. The ground is terracotta and rust, cracked and rubbed like old plaster, with faint architectural shapes behind. Squares of applied gold leaf catch the light at the lower right of the image and along the mount, and the whole is set on a black mat with gold fillets in a deep ornate gilt frame. Medium: mixed media with gold leaf on deckle-edged paper (possibly a hand-embellished print). Signed lower right of the sheet, in pencil/ink beside a gold leaf square.
