About the Item
A small, highly finished interior: a woman in a long white dress sprigged with green and red flowers and a red bodice sits at a dark upright piano beside a blue upholstered chair, in a room papered in golden ochre with a framed miniature on the wall and an open door to a cool grey passage at left. Light falls from the left across a polished plank floor, thrown back as soft reflections. Handling is fine and tight, with small dragged strokes in the dress and floor and thicker touches of white in the highlights. Medium: oil on canvas. Signed lower right of the canvas, dark paint over the floor. Condition: Paint film looks stable with only slight surface grime; the gilt frame has small rubs and a few chips to the composition ornament. No visible craquelure or losses in the image area.
