About the Item
An etching in soft brown aquatint tones: at left a stiff, jointed figure like an artist's lay figure raises one arm in a red sleeve and holds a long yellow spear, while at right a pale seated nude in a folded paper hat rests his chin on his hand on a terracotta block. A narrow band of pale blue sea crosses behind them and a scribbled coil-drawn creature stands on the far shore. Warm sepia ground, cream margins, pencil signed at the lower right. Medium: etching with aquatint and hand colouring on paper. Signed pencil, lower right of the margin. Condition: Light overall toning of the sheet and mount; image clean and strong. Heavy glazing reflections. No tears or foxing visible.
