About the Item

A square, warmly lit still life on a gold-ochre ground that shades from lemon at the top to burnt orange below. Five attenuated vessels - a tall oxblood bottle, a cobalt blue cylinder, a scarlet column and two smaller pots - stand in a shallow row, their reflections dragged downward into a dark pool of maroon and black. A bare branch carrying white five-petalled blossoms and a hanging cluster of rust-red berries springs from the tallest bottle. The paint is applied in a dense, sandy, granular impasto that speckles the entire background. Medium: oil on canvas, heavy textured impasto. Condition: no visible issues; thick paint intact.
