About the Item
A small naive painting set at dusk, with a graded blue sky that pales to warm cream at the horizon behind a bare, spidery tree. At the left a dark horse pulls a black-hooded buggy carrying two figures in broad white hats, while at the centre a woman in a long dark dress and white bonnet holds a small child and another child stoops beside a fence rail. A file of chalk-white geese waddles away to the right. Everything is simplified into flat silhouettes with fine brush detail, and the palette is restricted to slate blue, cream, black and a little rust. Medium: oil on canvas. Condition: A short reddish scuff or paint mark runs along the top rail of the frame; the painting itself shows no visible damage.
